How to Plan your Work Christmas Party

The work Christmas party… it’s something that can make you excited or shudder in fear. The good news is that it’s easy to do well if you consider some critical elements.

As you plan your Christmas Party, consider these things to make it a success.

Pick your work Christmas party date early

Did you know that the last Friday in November and the first two Fridays in December are the most popular dates for work Christmas parties? If this is the ideal date for your team, make sure you book in early.

You will be hard pressed to find a venue, caterer and experience provider that can accommodate you if you leave it too late. For example, we have been almost booked out on those dates since April (there are still a few spots left so we could still squeeze you in if you act quick!).

Consider an event that is more than eating and drinking

Remember (or maybe you can’t) that one time when the team, or individuals got so drunk that things got out of control and crazy drama ensued? If you haven’t experienced that, just ask a couple of your friends and listen to the stories. I’m going to guess that everyone is keen to avoid that this year, especially your boss!

To avoid this all round bad situation, consider doing an activity as part of your celebrations. There are some great options out there. Not only will it give focus to your Christmas party (significantly reducing the awkward factor), it will bring people together and give you all something to talk about for the rest of the year.’

How about a dress up Christmas party?

Some teams really dig this opportunity to express themselves. Some of our favourite themes have been:

Theme it via a country

We recently worked with a team who dressed up in their sub teams as the ‘countries’ they were representing as part of our Mastership Game experience. Not only did it make for a much more energetic and fun experience, the team were laughing, taking a heap of photos and it set the scene!

Theme it based on a letter of the alphabet

There’s 26 to choose from!

Theme it based on an era

20’s, 40’s, 60’s,70’s, 80’s and the awesome 90’s. There is so much rich go-to theming here it makes for an easy dress up!

Theme it based on a movie

Bond… need I say more

Bring a wow factor to your Christmas party with a unique venue

Did you know that these venues are available to hire in Brisbane?

  • Eat St Markets
  • The Maritime Museum (there’s a war ship there, just saying)
  • The Steam Train that can take you from Ipswich to Brisbane City
  • Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA)

If you are looking for an easy venue to work with that is a little more traditional, let us know, we’ve got plenty up our sleeves.

These are a few suggestions to get you thinking about your Christmas Party early. Make it happen, make it amazing, make it memorable!
